La banda fue formada en Costa Rica el año 2001, cuando Mauricio Ledezma, le propuso la idea a un grupo de amigos. En ese año Mauricio se encontraba viviendo en Houston, Texas y decidió mantener la banda como un proyecto que se reunía dos veces al año cuando se encontraba de vacaciones en el país. Entre 2001 y 2003 la banda se juntaba ocasionalmente para tocar en diferentes bares de San José y playas del país. En el año 2003, Mauricio se traslada a residir permanentemente en Costa Rica y el grupo logra mayor estabilidad.

Mauricio aprendió  a amar el blues y tocar la armónica  en las calles de Houston, una ciudad con una escena musical muy rica. En esa ciudad se convirtió en uno de los participantes mas regulares de los jams de blues locales y tuvo también la oportunidad de participar como invitado en las bandas de excelentes músicos de Texas, como Sonny Boy Terry, Little Ray Ybarra, Grady Gaines y Joe Guitar Hughes.

Por la banda han pasado excelentes músicos nacionales, por los que Mauricio siente un gran agradecimiento y admiración. Entre ellos se encuentran Carlos Aguilar  (quien todavía colabora con el grupo en el bajo cuando Franco no puede tocar), Gabriel Venegas, Gerardo Castro, Luis Carlos Huertas y Christian González.

Blues Devils ofrece un “revue” de diferentes estilos de blues, incluyendo el estilo mas orientado a la armónica  Chicago con canciones de Little Walter y Muddy Waters, el estilo de los grandes guitarristas de Texas como Albert Collins, Fredie King y Stevie Ray Vaughan, y el estilo mas swing  de los músicos de la costa oeste de Estados Unidos  “West Coast Blues” con canciones de William Clarke, Rod Piazza y Little Charlie & the Nightcats. La banda también interpreta canciones de soul y rock clásico, según sea el gusto del publico y los dueños de los negocios que contratan a la banda.

Mauricio Ledezma es tambien el organizador del Festival de Blues de Costa Rica, evento anual que trae al país artistas internacionales como Smokin Joe Kubek, Guitar Shoert, Sonny Boy Terry y Little Ray Ybarra. Par más información visiten: www.crbluesfest.com

The band was formed in Costa Rica 2001, when Maurico Ledezma proposed his idea to a group of friends. At that time, Mauricio was living in Houston, Texas and decided to maintain the band as a project that would get together twice a year when he was in the country on vacation. Between 2001 and 2003 the band would play ocassionaly in the clubs of  San Jose and the beaches of Costa Rica. In 2003, Mauricio moved to Costa Rica permanently and the band became more stable.

Maurico learnt to love the blues and play the harmonica in the streets of Houston, a city with a very rich music scene. In this city he became a regular of the local blues jams and had the chance to play as a guest  in the bands of great Texas musicians such as Sonny Boy Terry, Little Ray Ybarra, Grady Gaines and Joe Guitar Hughes.

Many excellent musiciand have played in the band, and Mauricio would like to express his admiraton and thankfulness to all of them. Among these musicians, he would like to thank  Carlos Aguilar (who still cooperates with the band when Franco cannot play the bass), Gerardo Castro, Gabriel Venegas, Luis Carlos Huertas and Christian Gonzalez.

Blues Devils offer a revue of different blues styles, such as Chicago (Little Walter, Muddy Waters), the style of the great Texas guitar players such as Albert Collins, Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughan and the more swing-oriented style of the West Coast bands such as Wiliam Clarke, Rod Piazza and Little Charlie and the Nightcats.

The band can also play soul and classic rock tunes when the crowd and club owners request them.

Mauricio Ledezma is also the promoter of the Annual Costa Rica Blues Fest, event that brings to CR every year international blues acts such as Smokin Joe Kubek, Guitar Shorty, Sonny Boy Terry and Little Ray Ybarra. For more info check: www.crbluesfest.com
